QUALITY SINGLE-SOURCE MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS

A Family Tradition

A family and veteran-owned company, C & S General Machine was founded in April 1969 by Robert R. Steele and Ronnie Cook in a small garage in Louisville, KY. The business grew, and in 1973, Cook and Steele moved from the original 180 square foot shop to just down the road to the beginnings of the current manufacturing campus for C & S General Machine.

The two partners had successes together up until the early 1980’s. Bob Steele wanted to continue with the growth of the business, expand the capabilities, and continue reinvesting. However, the two didn’t agree on this approach. Ronnie & Bob mutually agreed to go their separate ways, when Steele bought Cook’s ownership of the business.
Immediately after the buyout, Steele broke ground on a 26,000 square feet addition, which is now known as ‘Building 2’, giving the company a total of 35,000 square feet of building space. Aligning with the visions of growing beyond a local job shop, Bob & his team elected to change the name from ‘C & S General Machine’ to the more popular, “C & S Machine & Manufacturing Corporation”.

Approaching his retirement in the early 1990’s, Steele hired John Yuda to take over as President of the company. Under Yuda’s leadership, C & S expanded its business to incorporate production machining into its established job shop, fabricating, and repair capabilities. In 1997, Josh and his team facilitated our most recent building addition, adding another 21,500 square feet to our manufacturing space.

As Yuda neared retirement age, Bob Steele’s grandson, Ryan Steele had been hired in during December 2010, ushering in a third generation of the Steele family. As he was completing his time at the University of Louisville studying Finance, Ryan served as a Maintenance Tech, eventually becoming a Project Manager. His initial role was to update the company’s infrastructure (IT, lighting, offices, ERP, etc.) and helping establish a marketing presence. That soon evolved into Operations, Accounting, and Sales. In January 2014, Ryan was named the General Manager of C & S. His business philosophy centered around technology, capabilities, and sound business systems. In December 2018, owner Bob Steele named his grandson Ryan, as fifth President of C & S Machine & Manufacturing.
